While I was doing some research on the 'net about Juon, I found this site and learned that there are really 4 different versions. Well 5 really if you count the recently released American version. I guess the director need to keep working on his vision before it was prefected.
What I like about the Japanese version is that there isn't the gore found in American horror films or cheesey CGI. All of the terror is left to the viewer's imagination and this is what I feel makes this movies so scary....

Last night I watched Ju-on, the Japanese thriller that has finally hit these shores.. I watched the original Japanese version in Japanese with English subtitles. I was at Best Buy, earlier, and I couldn't resist picking it up. The story revolves around a jealous ghost of a husband and the ghosts of his family members that what to escape their captor, but can't and their interaction with the outside world of visitors, which is why if you have seen Toshio's ghost, say your prayers..
“JU-ON: a curse born of a grudge held by someone who dies in the grip of powerful anger. It gathers in the places frequented by that person in life, working its spell on those who come into contact with it and thus creating itself anew.”
Over all I give this movie a B+/A. Not gorey at all, but sure is scary.

A bluing hand brushes your naked skin as you stand beneath the shower. A glimpse of something in the corner of your eye - is it only a reflection in the window pane, or something more tangible? Yuko and I just finished watching a documentary called, Tokyo Girls. It details the lives of the hostess girls and what their lives are really like. It also brought a nice view of the concrete city to our tree stricken life here in Minnesota.
What is funny, is that some of the clubs shown in Osaka are just around the corner from where Yuko and I got married... Maybe I should check it out and bring back photos when Yuko and I and Daichi make a trip in late Febuary....
I personally thought the video gave the viewers (me) a glimpse into the life of the rich Japanese business man who has more money than they really know what to spend it on, but don't know what love is. Some of the customers really turn out to be mob bosses seeking friendship and maybe love in the ladies who are out to chase their money.... Man you see the cars these guys drive.

Wow! The Last Samurai is Awesome. It was better than I expected! Tom is tom, of course but he did better than I expected. He really got into his part and I think he was very believable. Don't take my word for it...
"In two and a half hours, this movie flew by. When you see the samurai come charging over the hill on horseback in full regalia, you'll be glad you watched it." Says Jeff Over at alive in kyoto
The fighting scenes were very realistic and not so gory like, Kill Bill. Even Yuko gave it 2 thumbs up.
We just finished 28 Days Later and I have to say that it was a very good movie. I some parts of the movie you can see the gain of the film and I really think that it adds to the mood. It scared the hell out of Yuko and I. well, maybe Yuko more than I, but it was scary and I am hopping that this kind of thing will never happen, but you never know. Over all I give it 2 thumbs up and would recomend it to anyone into scary movies.
Last night we watched "Gangs of New York" Staring: Leonardo Dicaprio, Daneil Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz. It was all brought together by Martin Scorsese and hammered into a good, but violent story.
The story involves Irish immigrants and how they are abused by gangs and poverty and most notably, the goverment as they are conscripted into the army to fight the Southern Army durning the Civil War.
The movie depicts the Irish immigrants stepping of the boat and hurdded into the conscription lines. I don't know how realistic this is, but it is ashame to think that it is true. The movie shows us how racist the north really was, even though the North was fighting the South over the issue of slavery.
Overall I would give this movie a C based on the graphic violence. I think I could do without it, but on second thought I don't think this movie would be able to be told without it.
Today is looking like it is going to be a perfect summer.spring day here in the "north country". When I say perfect I mean it is so nice out that you can literally walk out in a t-shirt and it isn't too hot or too humid. Perfect! I love this weather and I wish I could take some of it with me to Osaka, Japan.
Last weekend I watched a wonderful movie called, The Way Home. It is a Korean film that deals with a young mother in the midst of sever money troubles, who leaves her son at her mother's house while she looks for a new job. Here is a small glipse into the story:
"More accustomed to the luxuries of the modern world, a spoiled seven-year old boy must stay with his old-fashioned grandmother in a small rural village while his mother looks for work. At first Sang-woo rudely rejects his grandmother's way of life. But gradually, through her constant show of kindness and love, he learns to accept and understand the simple pleasures of nature and her lifestyle. Sang-woo leaves the village a different boy. Because of his grandmother, he sees the world around him with a new found respect and appreciation. "

I would highly recomend this title as I found it very moving. I have come away from this movie really understanding that what has ruined america and a lot of other places, including Japan, is that people have lost contact from where we have come from. Nowadays it seems like everyone thinks that money grows on trees when if fact that they have no idea of what it is like to have to go without money, as depicted in The Way Home.
Well this is a little glipse into my unified theory about people.
